Dr. Sinan Akkar, PhD

Professor of Earthquake Engineering

Sinan Akkar served as a full professor at Bogazici University between 2013 and 2021. Currently, he is a part-time instructor in the same university and principal catastrophe modeller in Turk Reasurans Inc. He also worked as a full-time professor at the Middle East Technical University between 2003 and 2013. Dr. Akkar performed his post-doctoral studies at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University and visited the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College, London.

The main research interests of Dr. Akkar are development of ground-motion models, probabilistic hazard and risk modeling. He has involved in various national and international seismic hazard and risk projects as a researcher, consultant or principal investigator.
